Our Mission

The Friends of the Sacramento Public Library is a volunteer organization with a dual mission: to advocate for the library and to provide funding for library programs and materials, primarily through selling donated books.

DID YOU KNOW?: The Library will be closed on Friday, May 18th due to a furlough day.

Friends,

We have been asked by the Friends Library Education & Advocacy Committee to help generate letters to Governor Brown asking him to restore and preserve library funding that was cut in December 2011.  A sample letter which you can print out, sign and mail to the Governor (or revise in any way you like) is available for you in Word 2007 & PDF format by clicking here.

If the $15.2 million cuts to the library funding are not restored, we will also face losing the matching Federal funding which pays for special programs like the library Nooks and services to the blind, as well as Link+.

While Rivkah Sass (our Library Director)  is committed to keeping our libraries open such drastic cuts will seriously impact the ability of our Library system to serve its community.

Please let us know if you send a letter so we can keep a tally.

Thanks for your help!
