Karen Thomas, our Friends Secretary, suggested as part of a Board Development/Team Building activity that we read The Thriving Library: Successsful Strategies for Challenging Times by Marylaine Block. I would like to share part of that Board Proposal with you:
"As the new North Natomas Library is being built, it is important for the Friends Board and the library staff to develop a shared vision for our library, so that we can work effectively together. One way of building a common vision would be to spend some time reading and discussing The Thriving Library by Marylaine Block.
Described as "The Joy of Cooking for Libraries," The Thriving Library, published in 2007, explores strategies and projects that have helped more than 100 public libraries gain community support and funding during challenging times.
By reading and discussing a chapter a month together for the next 8 months, we will build a common knowledge of library issues, practices, and ideas that will help us do a better job of working together to support our new library."
I hope you will join us for all or part of the discussion. We are certainly facing challenging times in our community and any opportunity to create an open and positive dialogue among community members should certainly be explored. I have placed a copy of the current discussion notes below in both Word 2003 and Adobe PDF formats
